Basada en la primera novela de la escritora chilena Isabel Allende el estudiantado tendrá oportunidad de ver mañana miércoles la película del mismo nombre, dirigida por Billie August. Es la saga de una familia a lo largo de tres generaciones que culminan con el golpe militar asestado por el general Augusto Pinochet a su Primer Jefe, el presidente Salvador Allende en otro aciago 11 de septiembre.
Se trata de la historia desde joven hasta que llega a la senectud de un despótico hacendado chileno quien casa con la hermana menor de su primera esposa, quien posee poderes sobrenaturales, y educa a sus descendientes mujeres bajo la señal de la autosuficiencia femenina y la dignidad.
El largo metraje es interpretado por un magnífico reparto de la Meca del Cine estadounidense: Meryl Streep en otra más de sus magníficas actuaciones, Antonio Banderas encarna con solidez madura al revolucionario Pedro, Winona Ryder en el mejor momento de su trayectoria artística luce sus finos rasgos y sensibilidad dramática, Glenn Close, hace de una conflictiva personalidad otro de sus grandes personajes que la sitúan en el lugar bien ganado dentro de la cinematografía mundial. Aunque la acción ocurre en chile la película fue filmada en Europa (En Dinamarca, Alemania y Portugal).
